Fortem Launches Clean for the Queen

In 2022, Her Majesty the Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service – the first British Monarch to reach such a milestone.

When Her Majesty the Queen first came to the throne, litter was not the problem that it is today. Food packaging, plastic bottles and cigarette butts have all contributed to a rapidly growing issue that affects our wildlife, streets, and countryside. To celebrate this monumental event, Fortem are asking their people and communities to unite and clean up our country.

With the launch of Fortem’s Clean for the Queen campaign, which will run up until the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bank holiday, Fortem will be rallying an army of volunteers to clean up the local areas where we live, work and play, in time for the Jubilee celebrations.

Fortem’s Customer and Community Team have planned litter blitzes across the country in March and April - with a final mighty clear-up taking place on Friday 6th May 2022.

Their efforts will leave a legacy, encouraging more people to reduce their litter habit and help us all to live more sustainably.

Not only this, but there will also be fun activities in the sun such as gardening, painting and renovating communities to encourage residents to use and appreciate the outside space they have.

Why Fortem are launching Clean for the Queen

Not only is the Platinum Jubilee a celebration the world hasn’t seen before, but the litter on our streets is the worst it’s ever been:

  • 30 million tons of rubbish are collected from England’s streets each year. That’s enough to fill Wembley Stadium four times over
  • The amount of litter on UK beaches has almost doubled over the past 15 years
  • It costs taxpayers almost £1 billion every year to clean up litter from our streets

If everybody in the UK picked up at least one piece of litter and correctly disposed/recycled it, that would be more than 67 million pieces of rubbish off our streets. Imagine how different our streets would look if everyone picked up one piece of litter every day for the next three months.

Fortem have also recruited a mascot for the campaign - His Majesty, Sir Binalot. His Majesty is a keen and driven individual in getting our streets clean and has high ambitions to encourage communities to join him on this highly impactful mission that will have lasting results.
