Fortem is delighted to support Hull City Council’s Winter Warmth Community Grants scheme with a donation of £50,000 as part of their commitment to giving back whilst carrying out an extensive energy efficiency programme to council owned homes.

The Winter Warmth Community Grants initiative, which is also being backed by funding from Efficiency North, is part of a range of measures being brought in by Hull City Council alongside voluntary and community groups across the city as a response to the cost of living crisis. The first in a series of council-backed warm spaces will open their doors in Hull next week for people struggling with the cost of heating their own homes.

Operations Director Andrew Brown and Customer and Community Manager Rebecca Goodwin presented the £50,000 cheque to Hull City Council leader Mike Ross on Monday 24 October at Jubilee Church, one of the warm spaces in the city centre.

Cllr Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council said, “Being cold can cause cumulative problems affecting people’s health and wellbeing, particularly among our more vulnerable residents. We are especially grateful to the support we are receiving from the local business community, including Fortem and Efficiency North, for their generous donations to help us support our residents. I hope that donations will continue to be forthcoming, and I urge local organisations to consider how they can get involved and apply to the scheme to deliver their projects.”

Andrew Brown, Operations Director at Fortem said, “The increase in the cost of living is a heavy burden and we cannot ignore what a detrimental impact such a crisis will have on so many people’s health and wellbeing. Through Fortem’s social value offering, it is important to us that we can support local people and communities during these difficult times.”

Grants between £1,000 to £10,000 are open to charities, faith groups and residents’ associations for projects such as provision of warm space venues with activities, warm clothing banks, slow cookers and electric blankets to help people stay warm over the winter through to March 2023.
